What is Truth?

At the end of your days when you see your life in review, you will be very surprised.  It will appear quite differently than you will have remembered.  For only then will you be able to see things clearly from the heavenly and eternal perspective of absolute truth.  You will hear the thoughts, and experience the emotions of other people involved in each interaction.  And for the first time you will observe a reality that is not distorted by your own or another’s fleshly and limited point of view.

Understand, dear one, that your human perception is clouded by false impressions, prejudices, past emotional wounds, and limited understanding.  Additionally, it is distorted by the false assumptions of those who taught you what and how to “see.”  The fleshly “spectacles” that color and distort your perceptions are darkened and smeared by the imperfect and flawed sin-tainted reasoning of men.  Realize also, that just as your shattered lenses prevent clear vision, so too, every other person’s vision is flawed by their faulty and misleading earthly “eyeglasses.”

The problem is compounded when each “blinded by the world” person mistakenly super-imposes, or projects their inaccurate understandings, attitudes, wrong thinking, and agendas on others, confusing, convoluting and distorting the picture even further.

Dear one, you can never know the hearts and minds of others.  You cannot feel their pain or know their deep motivations or weaknesses.  Relying on the flesh prevents you from perceiving the truth.  In the flesh, supposed “truth” will always be tied to selfish personal perspectives, learned wrong assumptions, or twisted human rationalizations.

Even if you could judge rightly and objectively, you would still be seeing just a fragment of the whole; a part of the picture; a mere sliver of the full view.  In the flesh, you cannot perceive the many layers and ripple effects of each event or human interaction.  What you imagine that you know is but a presumption, a projection, a “mirage of reality” that is severely influenced by your personal feelings and previous experiences.  It is subjective and fragile. It is tenuous at best, and often leads to “the blind leading the blind.”

“Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit?”  (Luke 6:39)blind james-tissot

“Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots.  Leave them; they are blind guides [of the blind].  If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”  (Matthew 15:13-14 NIV)

“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”  Isaiah 53:6 NIV

“For God is true, and every person lies, just as that which is written: “You will be upright in your words and you will be victorious when they judge you.”  Romans 3:4  Aramaic Bible

Dear one, truth does not hinge on YOUR understanding of it!  If truth is subjective or relative, then it isn’t truth.  If this is so, then how can you trust your own, or anyone else’s perceptions?  How can you ever begin to comprehend what the truth really is?  “Quid est veritas?” / “What is truth?” Pontius Pilate asked when I told him that I had come into the world to testify to THE TRUTH.

"For this I was born and for this I have come into the world: to testify of the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice." Pilate said to him, "What is the truth?" (John 18:37-38)

“For this I was born and for this I have come into the world: to testify of the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is the truth?” (John 18:37-38)

“Veritas” was the false Roman “goddess” of truth, so, even in the asking, Pilate was in error.  His words imply that there is no absolute truth; that different perspectives produce different truths, and that “truth is relative.”  He was also suggesting that truth is determined and dictated by the man with the most power, or “might makes right.”   This tends to be a favorite maxim of the prideful, the ruthless, and those in earthly positions of authority.

Actually, to know truth and operate in truth you must know the one who IS THE TRUTH.  The one who created all things, sustains all things, and knows all things; the one who not only sees every perspective, but created every perspective, is the only reliable source of absolute Truth (eh-met in Hebrew).  His word is TRUTH and LIFE.  It is eternal and pure and untainted.  The only protection and defense you have, dear one, against being led astray and beguiled by the illusionary “truth” of others, the world, the evil one, or your own impaired vision, is to know the ETERNAL TRUTH of YHVH and his WORD.  Believe on me, the WORD MADE FLESH, and ask to be filled with the RUACH EMET (Spirit of Truth) and you will be given spiritual discernment that does not depend upon your limited point of view or incomplete knowledge.  Listen carefully to the Spirit of Truth within you and obey him always.  Your life depends upon it!  For in him you will gain freedom from “the lie” and be enabled to understand and operate in TRUTH.  You will then have the supernatural power and means to overcome the deceptions and snares of this fallen world.

“I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”  John 14:6 NIV

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”  John 1:14 NIV

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”  John 17:17 KJB

“And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.”  1 John 5:6b NIV

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  John 8:32 NIV

“But I will send you the Advocate–the Spirit of Truth.  He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me.”  John 15:26 NLT

“I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.  But when he, the Spirit of Truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.  He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you.”     John 16:12-14 NIV

Dear one,  I took on flesh and walked among men, demonstrating the TRUTH and speaking the TRUTH in love.  I spoke with divine authority, not like other teachers.  I brought the LIGHT of TRUTH into the darkness, but men loved the darkness.  Not many had ears to hear or eyes to see!  They preferred to remain deaf and blind and bound to the LIE of the evil one.  Know, dear one, that you see rightly ONLY when you see through Heaven’s eyes.  When the gentle voice and impressions of the Ruach Emet (Spirit of Truth) contradict what you “see” in the natural, always trust HIM.  A Heavenly perspective is the only true perspective.  You will know more and more of the truth as you obey the truth and walk in the truth.

“The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”  1 Samuel 16:7b NIV

“In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,”  Ephesians 1:13 ESV

From Scripture

If you love me, keep my commands.  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of Truth.  The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”  John 14: 15-17 NIV

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.  Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)”  Ephesians 5:8-9 NIV

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.  God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”  John 4:23-24 NIV

“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.  They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them.  We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us.  This is how we recognize the Spirit of Truth and the spirit of falsehood.”  1 John 4:4-6 NIV

“Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.”  Psalm 119:160 KJB

“It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it.  I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”  3 John 1:3-4 NIV

“For the word of God is living and all-efficient, and much sharper than a double edged sword, and it pierces to the separation of soul and spirit and of joints, marrow and of bones, and judges the reasoning and conscience of the heart.”  Hebrews 4:12 Aramaic Bible

“I speak the truth in Christ–I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy Spirit–”  Romans 9:1 NIV

“But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.”  2 Thessalonians 2:13 NIV

“Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.”  1 Peter 1:22 NIV

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”   2 Timothy 2:15 NIV

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”  2 Timothy 3:16 NLT

“The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works.  He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing.  They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.  For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.”  2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 NIV

“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him.  When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”  John 8:44 NIV

One thought on “What is Truth?

  1. Yeshua is the tree of life rooted in truth. We are forbidden to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that is rooted in the sin of pride, to be LIKE God, that leads to death.
